– Alexandra, please tell us your story in America. Where did you study and work before Texas?
We moved to Austin in December of 2020. Before that, we lived in South Florida for several years. Moving to Austin was a spontaneous decision that we made and executed in just a couple of weeks. My husband David nor I have never even been to Texas, so the move was like a blind date.
In Florida, my husband was running his Security System Company, POGO Security, and several other projects that we are working on together right now in Austin. In Florida, I worked at an interior design firm and then at a structural engineer firm as an office manager and studied architecture in college.
– Please tell us about your profession and your work.
After moving to Texas, I joined my husband’s businesses. We opened an office here in Austin. One of our businesses is Marketing Agency Geeks5g, where I do web design. I studied sociology in College in Russia, and I also studied architecture and various design softwares which greatly helps me in web design and structuring sites.
– What do you love most about your job?
My spouse has always worked for himself, but for me this is a new experience, and I like that I am flexible. I can set my own rules and be creative.
– Was Austin your choice, or was it a coincidence?
We decided to move to Austin because my husband wanted to be closer to a high-tech community since he has been working on building his software, CRM Runner. CRM Runner is a business management platform that is designed to streamline and automate the day-to-day activities of business, with a focus on customer retention and field operations. For me, moving to a new state was a fun adventure. I was always thinking of trying to live somewhere other than Florida in the USA.
– What do you like the most about Austin?
We immediately fell in love with Austin for its hills, lakes, and a lot of hiking trails. People here are super nice and outgoing. David found like-minded people in Hi-Tech.
– What plans do you have for the future?
Most of our clients are home improvement companies. When I am working on a website, I like to learn specifics of that business niche. Most of all I like working with beauty, fashion, and design industries, so I am planning to target these niches more in the future.
– What are the challenges you face in business?
The most difficult thing is probably hiring employees. It is challenging to find good ones. Most of our team is based overseas and working remotely. Due to the time difference, we have to work more than just 9 to 5 daily
– Please tell us about your family.
We are a family of four, including our dog, a King German Shepherd, named Lex. We always try to find activities that will suit all four of us.
– What do you do outside of work? What are your interests and hobbies?
I love doing DIY projects for home decor, for example joint compound textured wall art. Albert (son) is also very crafty and always working on his projects. He got it from me. We are all doing sports. I do strength and conditioning hard-core classes. My son takes swimming classes, and my husband goes to the gym. We love spending time outdoors and exploring other states of the US.
– How is your family involved in the life of the Russian-speaking community in Austin?
My son and I visit our beloved Sputnik. Almost as soon as we moved to Austin, I came across Sputnik on Facebook, which was my best find. Even though my husband was born and raised in Israel, he understands and speaks Russian quite well, his first language is Hebrew, and we speak English in the house. The Russian school Sputnik helps Albert to practice Russian and stay excited about it.
– What do you like most about Sputnik?
Our favorite thing in Sputnik is Russian summer camp; this is Albert’s second summer there. Since my school years, I have spent every summer in a summer camp, from 6 to 21. At first, I was a camper and a teacher when I grew older. I am super happy that Albert also has that opportunity here in Texas.
– What would you like to wish the Russian-speaking residents of Austin and Texas?
Don’t settle for less and make the most of life.
