Interview: Viktoriia Jones

– Please tell us about yourself. Where did you live before coming to Austin, and what did you do?

Before moving to Austin, I lived, studied and worked in the city of St. Petersburg, Russia.  My activity was related to the organization of events such as weddings, corporate parties, birthdays and so on.  Our company was one of the five best in St. Petersburg.  Many of my organizational skills have also come in handy in my job now in Austin.

– How did you get to Austin?

My husband and his family are native to Austin, so I moved to this sunny city.

–  What is your occupation?

I have been a realtor for many years at Berkshire Hathaway TX Realty.  I love my job very much and helped many Russian-speaking residents find their new home.

– Do you miss your homeland?

I often visit Russia, visit my family and friends.  I have a lot of relatives and friends left in St. Petersburg, and in general I love this city.  But Austin also became like a family to me.

– Did you keep any traditions from your pre-American life?

I am a very traditional person, and to this day, like my mother, I try to cook pancakes on Sundays, just as we practically do not miss a single national holiday.

– Are you participating in any professional organizations?

I hold a position at the Russian Chamber of Commerce in Austin TX, which is a great organization that aims to bring together the Russian speaking community in Austin and also promote the interests of the community at the state level.

– How has your lifestyle changed when you moved to Texas?

There have been many changes, especially cultural ones, each place has its own pros and cons, I really love when it’s warm, and this is sometimes more important to me than the beautiful but rainy St. Petersburg.

– How would you like to help the Russian-speaking community in Austin?

I have conducted seminars on buying real estate in Austin more than once, and will continue to do so in the next one.  My  activity is aimed at helping people, in buying or renting real estate, finding a new house, moving, schools for children, I am very glad that I chose to work as a realtor, since every day I help people to take maybe the most important step in their life.

– Please tell us about your family

My family stayed in Russia, in Austin, I have a husband and two of my favorite dogs, Jack Russell Terrier, my husband has a big family, and we all communicate very well, so I feel very comfortable, and I don’t feel like a newcomer to Austin.

– Tell us about your hobbies

I love an active lifestyle, I love playing tennis, walking, traveling, America is a big country, and there are a lot of interesting places that are not similar to each other, we try to make a road trip every year in different states.
