Interview with Valeriia Iakimenko

Interview with Valeriia Iakimenko — Founder of Resonance Picnic Austin

– Valeriia, please tell us a little about yourself.

After moving to Austin, I wanted to bring a bit more beauty and coziness to this city. That’s how my project, Resonance Picnic Austin, was born. My atmospheric picnics are not just a job — they’re a way to try something new, bring my dream to life, and create moments of harmony and joy for others.

– Where did you study and what did you do before moving to Texas?

I graduated from high school and entered college to study psychology, where I completed two years. Studying was never easy for me, but I’ve always had a strong drive to explore, learn, and find my path. I started working at 15, trying different fields, and there was even a time when I was completely independent, relying only on myself. That experience taught me organization, responsibility, and strengthened my desire to one day build something of my own.

Now, I’m continuing to improve my English and discovering new opportunities every day.

– Why Austin?

You could say the city chose us. My husband received a job offer, and the three of us — my husband, our cat, and I — moved to Austin together.

– What do you like most about living in Austin?

Everything here is close by, clean, and people are incredibly friendly. Of course, the heat can be a challenge, especially for my business, since most picnics take place outdoors. But I try to adapt by choosing the right time and location so that guests feel comfortable and can fully enjoy the atmosphere.

– Tell us more about your project.

Resonance Picnic Austin is all about creating boho-style picnics filled with beauty, details, and emotion. It could be a romantic date at sunset, a get-together with friends, or simply a relaxing time in a beautiful spot. For me, it’s not only a creative outlet but also a personal challenge — to see if I can build a business based on my vision and passion.

– Do you miss anything from your home country?

I’m always open to new experiences, but I’ve kept my love for heartfelt, soulful gatherings. That’s something I try to reflect in my work — to make people feel as cozy and comfortable as they would at home.

– What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I study English, travel, and spend time with friends.

New places and experiences inspire me and help me see beauty in everyday life.

– What would you like to wish the Russian-speaking community in Austin and Texas?

Don’t be afraid to meet new people, to try, and even to make mistakes.

Every new beginning is a step forward — and it’s through action that we discover who we are and what we’re capable of.

– Please tell us about yourself

I’m a highly organized person who loves beauty in the details. In the future, I dream of expanding my concept — from intimate picnics to larger events like weddings and celebrations. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my ideas come to life and bring joy to others.

I truly believe that beauty makes people happier. And if my picnics help someone feel a sense of harmony and inspiration, then I know I’m on the right path.
